Improving Access by Maximizing Advanced Practice Provider Productivity

With a growing need for primary care, a large Midwestern Catholic healthcare ministry needed to fully utilize all its providers – including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants (APPs) – to meet demand. A small team of employees collaborated to implement a standard approach for fully leveraging APPs which resulted in a 133% gain in slot utilization in the first month of implementation.


Lack of clarity about APP qualifications and inconsistent APP usage across practices was limiting overall productivity and community access to care. A standardized and more strategic approach was needed to solve these challenges.
